Management has been described as the art of getting things done by people the course of action taken to reach the intended goals. Frenchman Henri Fayol famously described management as consisting of the following 5 functions.
• Planning
• Organizing
• Leading
• Coordinating
• Controlling
It has been difficult to describe management and many have regarded the above description of management by Fayol as extremely narrow and not indicative of the true nature of job of management. A widely held notion is that management is simply what managers do. This has been a consensus statement on which most people agree on.
