Most research papers on technology are written in Chicago or CSE/CBE
Style. Even so, the style and format depend upon the type, level and
word count of the paper.
Technology has been defined as the practical application of knowledge
in a specific area as well as a capability given as a result of the
practical application of knowledge". Technology is a relatively
wide concept that deals with the usage as well as knowledge of tools
and crafts. Technology also deals with how it affects the ability
to control as well as to adapt to the environment.
In the modern world, technology has come as a consequence of the
advances in the fields of science and engineering. A strict definition
of how to define technology has been an elusive thing. It may refer
to material objects employed by humanity such as hardware or machines.
On the other hand it could also refer to systems, methods of organization
as well as techniques. It can be applied both generally as well as
to describe specific areas.
The lines between science, engineering and technology are blurred
and the three terms are often overlapping. All technologies are not
necessarily restricted in use to science and are used for utility,
usability as well as safety. Although technology precedes as a human
activity both science and engineering, it is quite often a consequence
of these two fields. For instance, science may study how the electrons
flow in electrical conductors by employing known tools and technical
knowledge. This new knowledge can in turn be used to make new tools
as well as machines by engineers that benefit the human society. This
includes semiconductors, computers, and other advanced technological
tools. Therefore, both scientists and engineers are sometimes referred
to as technologists. This overlapping mix of technology, science and
engineering is for the purpose of reference and research.
Writing a good research paper requires hard work and thinking. It
is very important that the research paper is complete, consistent
and thorough.
The basic structure of the paper is the same as for research papers
in other natural science subjects. The introduction is followed by
a review of previous works regarding the topic. This is followed by
the methodology and results section. Finally, the discussion section
is included which analyzes the results and its implications. The discussion
section also provides suggestions for future study on the topic.
The foremost thing to watch out for is plagiarism. This means using
someone else’s work without giving due credit. Even if you paraphrase
someone’s work, it is important to cite the source in-text as
well as in the bibliography or references list. |
